Vet exposes a mom as a dog thief, returning a dachshund to her original owner 1 year after she escaped: ‘[You can’t] separate her from my children!'

Hypnotized by a weenie-dog's adorable charms, this soccer mom transformed into a dog burglar, ignoring the "Lost Dog" signs all over the neighborhood and intentionally keeping someone else's pet.

If you see a purebred dachshund galloping around unattended on the street, it's unlikely that that dog is some random stray. I'm not breed-ist by any means, and I love all dogs equally, but showroom pups with genetic lineages that can be traced back 100s of years are not often left by the wayside to fend for themselves like some common mutt. Dachshunds, especially, bred to be stubborn, lovable, hunting dogs, could never be misunderstood as a street dog, unless its rescuer isn't coming to their aid to reunite them with their real family.

Like French Bulldogs, which are often plucked from their fenced yards and resold on the dark web, pint-sized puppies can fetch the attention of dog lovers in nefarious ways. This sweet and gentle dachshund escaped from her home over a year ago, slipping under the fence and into the unknown, but the soccer mom that found her never expected that the cute puppy eyes and long-bodied charm of this doxie would turn her and her family into dog thieves.

Despite learning immediately that this dog already belonged to another, who was pinning up "Lost Dog" signs and scouring neighborhood forums to find their beloved pet, this mom decided to keep the dog a secret. She took that dachshund home with her, and her kids bonded with the pup immediately. Although it was the wrong thing to do, the mom turned away from her better instincts and kept the dog, only to be exposed 1 year later by a microchip.

The dog may have seemed like she was happily dognapped, but Stockholm Syndrome wouldn't be enough to fool the vet, who scanned her chip and realized that she already belonged to a family, one that had been looking for her for 12 months. Finally, after all this time, this dachshund was ready to go back to her real family, regardless of a mom's guilt-tripping and flimsy excuses.

That was quite the side quest adventure for this little pup!
